A Mascara Showdown

Mascara is a tricky beauty product to talk about as what we want differs so much as well as of course, having completely different lashes and I find even your skin type can interfere with how a product performs. But mascara is without a doubt one of my favourite products to try as it's one of those instant gratification items and you instantly know whether it's something that works or not. So I've rounded up all the mascaras that I've used in the past few months to share with you, some I've loved and some have been a huge disappointment.

TOO FACED BETTER THAN SEX MASCARA*

WHAT IS SAYS IT'S GOING TO DO...

One coat of the carbon black, collagen-fueled mascara formula and lashes are full, defined and stretched to unbelievable lengths. Two coats and lashes are even more luscious, curled and dramatic. Three coats and achieve the most intense black, oversized, multidimensional lashes possible!

WHAT IT DOES FOR ME..

The amount of times I've spoken about this mascara will probably give you a good indication of how much I love it. Now we didn't always get along and the first time I used it I actually thought it was a giant waste of money. Then it dried out the smallest amount and I understood what all the hype was about. It grabs all my lashes and makes them look so beautiful and perfectly fanned out. You can really amp this up to give a very dramatic finish on the lashes but you do have to be aware of it clumping. When this has dried out a little I don't find it to drop down or smudge at all which are two things I usually struggle with a lot when it comes to mascara. It is pricey, and I rarely think high-end mascaras are worth it but this one most definitely is.

CLAUDIA LOUCH VOLUMISING MASCARA*

WHAT IS SAYS IT'S GOING TO DO...

Suitable for sensitive and/or dry, irritable eyes looking for added volume, length and bold curl, the new Claudia Louch Intense Lash Mascara features a high-tech brush with soft, flexible white elastomer to evenly coat each lash from root to tip. Lashes are instantly lengthened, curled and separated, with the conical shape of the wand reaching even the smallest lashes at the corner of the eye.

WHAT IT DOES FOR ME...

An awesome brand that I've discovered through blogging is Claudia Louch. This mascara has a plastic brush which I typically prefer to natural bristles as I find you can really wriggle the brush around without the worry of smudging. The shape of the brush is curved meaning it fits around all the lashes and you only need a few coats to really achieve a really dramatic finish. It's one of the only mascaras alongside the Too Faced that I can use alone and achieve the exact look I want. This isn't so much for ladies who are after a lot of length but if you want a lot of lift and definition in your lashes then this is beautiful and it stays put all day without being a nightmare to remove.

RIMMEL SCANDALEYES RELOADED*

WHAT IS SAYS IT'S GOING TO DO...

Extreme volume: Formula with special flexible polymers builds extreme volume without clumps. Extreme wear: lasts even in extreme conditions. Smudge proof, sweat proof. Easy to remove even with warm water Up to 24HR impact. Max density brush captures the full lash fringe, loading volume corner to corner.

WHAT IT DOES FOR ME...

Personally, I've always had a great experience with Rimmel mascaras until this one came along. I had high hopes for it as from the description it sounds pretty awesome right? The brush is very typical in terms of design but sometimes keeping things simple can make for an awesome product. Sadly not the case with this one and on my lashes this mascara just kind of does nothing. It adds the smallest amount of lift and separation and it doesn't matter how many coats I try and slick on this just does nothing for me. Which makes it wonderful on the days that I can't really be bothered to apply makeup and just want my eyes to pop a little. But in general, I wouldn't go out and buy this as I want my mascara to make a statement.

RIMMEL VOLUME SHAKE MASCARA*

WHAT IS SAYS IT'S GOING TO DO...

Volume Shake mascara gives lashes a beautiful Clump-free volume, from first to last use! Perfect for everyday volume. Use the Volume Defining brush to load bare lashes with a generous coat of volumising formula to build beautiful natural-looking volume.

WHAT IT DOES FOR ME...

This is a slightly strange product as you shake it and I'm not sure what that actually does but the mascara is fantastic. The brush grabs all the lashes and adds some serious volume and lift at the root but it doesn't clump at all and just gives the illusion of much thicker lashes. It does add a small amount of length but nothing too crazy. For a budget mascara this is absolutely fantastic and shake to activate gimmick aside it's beautiful.

MAX FACTOR FALSE LASH EPIC MASCARA*

WHAT IS SAYS IT'S GOING TO DO...

Designed to stand up to the zoom, the Max Factor False Lash Epic Mascara brush with Zoom-Action Tip captures and magnified every detail of every lash for an epic lash fan. No lash is left unseen.

WHAT IT DOES FOR ME...

Maxfactor is a brand that is pretty well known for a great mascara and it's one that I used in my teens and loved. So when this dropped through my letter box I thought yes we'll definitely get on. And when I applied it I loved what it did at the root of my lash as it made me look like I had hundreds of lashes but then the ends we're just kind of nothing. It was almost like I'd never applied any product to them which is very odd. In combination with another mascara, this could probably work very well and I do like the spiky ball on the end as you can get right into the inner corner but other than that this is a huge disappointment.

RIMMEL WONDER'FULL MASCARA*

WHAT IS SAYS IT'S GOING TO DO...

Lashes feel conditioned, soft and flexible, with zero clumps and a feather-light volume. Ultra Flex brush with ultra-soft bristles also hugs lashes defining them from root to tip.

WHAT IT DOES FOR ME...

It saddens me to feature another Rimmel mascara as a complete flop but this is terrible. I think it's the Argan oil in this product that is a little problematic because whilst having nicely conditioned lashes is wonderful but I don't think it has a place in a mascara. I feel like it's going to be somewhat obvious that it might make the lashes fall a little. No matter how hard I try I can't get any volume from this mascara so, therefore, it's not living up to its name as it's impossible to get any lift with it. You can get a nice amount of lash separation from it but that's it.
