Let’s Catch Up

It’s been a couple of months since I’ve sat and opened my laptop raring to write a blog post, there’s been a few reasons for this which I won’t bore you with but I’m hoping that posts won’t be so sparse from now on. The last time I wrote a post I was full of plans for autumn but things quickly took a turn in the UK and right now we’re back in lockdown measures. Which certainly didn’t come as a shock but it’s come with its own set of worries and dread none the less. The lockdown was also leaked to the press the day before we were due to leave for Scotland which meant the holiday we’d planned and looked forward to for months after having to postpone our wedding was suddenly no more. Anyway, there are lots to talk about in this post so here’s everything I’ve been up to in the last few months;

PAINTING, PAINTING AND MORE PAINTING

When our Scotland road trip got cancelled we decided to use our week off productively and finally did some decorating. Our bedroom, my boyfriend's office, and our front porch have needed a fresh lick of paint for a while. But, we had hoped that we’d be moving this year so had been putting it off as it seemed like a waste. The likelihood of us moving within the next year is seriously slim now so it didn’t seem like a total waste of time and money to refresh a few rooms. Our bedroom was our main focus, it had been painted white for five years and as much as I love white walls, they can soon look a bit tired and ours certainly had a grey tinge to them. So instead of just repainting the white, we decided to go for a beautiful sage green (Farrow & Ball - Mizzle) and it’s the exact shade I’d been lusting after. It’s so calming to have in our bedroom and compliments our white furniture perfectly. It’s a room that I look forward to going to in an evening rather now than laying in bed looking at bits of paint that really needed some attention. My boyfriend's office has been changed from a rather lack lustre duck egg to Farrow & Ball - Hauge Blue. Which I’m sure you’ve probably seen all over interior Instagram as it’s rather a cult colour and it’s not hard to understand why as it’s the most beautiful inky midnight blue. I absolutely adore it and I wouldn’t hesitate to use it again whenever we do eventually move. As much as I hate the upheaval that comes with redecorating there is nothing better than seeing a room completely refreshed.

a week of walks in the peaks

In October my boyfriend took the week off work as it was supposed to be our wedding week. We moved our wedding a few months but we still wanted to take the week to be with each other and get some nice autumnal walks in. If we’d known we’d be going back into lockdown we would have moved our holiday to that week instead but sadly we had no idea what was going to happen in the space of 24 hours. We drove up to the Peak District a few times to go on some familiar walks as well as spots that we hadn’t visited before like Thor’s Cave and Stanage Edge. Walking in the Peak District is my absolute favourite thing to do and we’re so fortunate we live so close to some of the most beautiful walks in the country.

getting back into instagram

For a long time, I’ve had a real love-hate relationship with Instagram and it’s been a big source of worry and anxiety for me but I think I’ve finally found a good balance with it. It’s actually made me really happy which isn’t something that I’ve felt for such a long time and I’ve felt that thrill of sharing content and connecting with my audience which I truly thought had disappeared with the constant algorithm changes. Taking the pressure off to constantly share beautifully curated content has been a big game-changer for me. As much as I enjoy creating and sharing it there was a lot of pressure and I know that my favourite content to see especially on stories is snippets from their everyday life so that's what I've tried to create a balance with.

appreciating the small things

It’s fair to say that this year hasn’t been a time to be working towards big goals and it’s been hard to get myself out of that mindset. There have been so many things taken completely taken out of our hands so at the moment I’m really trying to focus on the small things that I can work towards and achieve. Some days this simply looks like getting up and walking the dogs and other days I get to work on the small number of projects I have right now. As my typical workload has been dramatically reduced I’ve found myself with so much more free time and whilst I’d love to say that I’ve spent the time productively but I haven’t. The anxiety of the unknown of what is happening in the world right now and being put back under lockdown has certainly taken a big toll on my mental health as I’m sure it has for so many others. As all our big plans have been cancelled like our wedding, Scotland trip and our biggest plan to move house have all been put on hold. Having a big reset of my mindset has been very necessary and I’m trying to remain as positive as I can as I do have so much to appreciate in my life.

watching really good tv

I feel like I’ve watched more tv than ever lately and to be honest, I’ve rather enjoyed it. It’s been the exact escapism that I’ve craved with everything going on in the world and this is what I’ve loved watching lately;

  • This Is Us - Season 5

  • Emily in Paris

  • The Haunting of Bly Manor

  • Call The Midwife

  • The Tube: Going Underground

  • Ratched
