My Essentials For Working From Home Right Now | AD

The bare essentials of what I require to do my job don’t tend to change all year round as I’ll always need my laptop, camera, and phone but there are a few added seasonal extras that make my workday even better. In the colder months, my essentials tend to be more on the comfortable side as I’m all about making my workday as cosy as possible. When it’s miserable outside and you want nothing more than to snuggle into a blanket and never get out again but you've still got a to-do list to tick off these are my essentials.

the all year round essentials

diary

For a long time, I was a journal type of girl for keeping my days organised but then I got what I consider to be the ultimate diary and it’s completely changed my workday. It comes from Rifle Paper Co (gifted) and it’s an 18-month planner. Each day comes with its own little section for a reasonable to-do list as well as the planner containing a monthly planner as well as a sizeable note section. I carry this around the house with me everywhere and wherever I’m working whether it’s at my desk or on the sofa this is always next to me and I love having everything in one place as it helps to keep me organised.

glasses

I can generally get away without my glasses if I’m walking the dogs and watching tv but I require them for driving, computer work and taking photographs and it’s taken me what feels like forever to find a pair of glasses that I can comfortably and happily wear for hours. When I had my annual eye test earlier in the year I decided to finally try Ace & Tate as I know they’re a brand that comes highly praised by anyone who owns a pair of glasses from them but when ordering glasses online you never quite know what you’re getting. When I received my order which only took around 5 days I was thrilled, not only were the frames (I have the Fizz frames) great quality but they are so comfortable without them being professionally fitted. At the end of my workday, I’m not aching to take my glasses off and that is such a big deal for a productive work day for me as it means I can work comfortably for long.

podcasts

Depending on my mood I flit between podcasts and music to keep me company and as of right now these are my favourite podcasts;

  • The Beauty Podcast by Sali Hughes

  • Letters From A Hopeful Creative

  • The High Low

  • Listen Louder

the seasonal essentials

slippers

The day I realised that a cosy pair of slippers is the key in your working from home wardrobe it changed my life, and I wish I was being dramatic. I have terrible circulation in my feet and whilst I can get up every so often and have a wander around to help matters something that I’ve found to be key is keeping my feet warm. Right now what's keeping my feet super toasty and warm are these women’s sheepskin slippers from Celtic & Co. Every time I slide my feet into these slippers it’s like a little hug for cold toes, they’re incredibly cosy and comfortable and because of their hard sole it means that I can nip into the garden with Josie and Edie and not have to worry about ruining them.

cosy loungewear

Some people find they work best wearing the clothes that they also wear day to day but I’m all about loungewear. I know it’s only one step up from wearing your pj’s but if you don’t have a dress code then you’ve got to make the most of it I think. Loungewear is not only what I find the most comfortable to sit in all day but it’s also something that makes me feel slightly put together if I do need to nip out or answer the door to someone. My winter uniform consists of slim leg jogging bottoms with a cuffed ankle and a roll neck jumper and it’s the perfect combination for being warm and comfortable.

blankets and candles

If I’m sat at my desk typing away at my computer than I have to have the following; a big woollen blanket and a candle. It can get pretty chilly in the colder months when you’re sat in the same place for hours on end so a blanket to wrap around myself almost like a cape is something I rely on to keep snug all day without sitting on the sofa. A candle is just a little added luxury I like to have for my work day, they certainly aren’t a necessity by any means but it’s one of those perks you get by working from home. Having a welcoming aroma coming from my office and that then travels into the rest of the house is undoubtedly one of the best things you need when you're inside all day.
