A Fresh Pop Of Colour

A brand that I'm becoming more and more familiar with is Clinique . Over the past year, I've slowly become more in touch with their products, in particular their make up. Their primers and cheek products are firm favourites in my collection, but I've never really delved into their lip products other than the infamous chubby sticks until now.

They've recently released a new line of lip products by the name of Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer* , formulated to be a nourishing satin lip colour and primer all in one. When I read that they were formulated with a primer my ears instantly pricked up. I prime most areas of my face but for some reason I never really thought about my lips.

The formulation is solid across the board; they're incredibly pigmented so you only need to apply one layer for a completely opaque finish. As they contain priming properties they create a smooth finish and fuller lip shape without the need for a liner. They're super nourishing to the lips without being overly slippy as I'm sure we've all had the problem of something being so glossy it ends up on your cheek half way through the day.

When first applied they feel like a balm and then dry down to that classic satin finish which is my favourite. Wear time is a good 4-5 hours without touch-ups and they succeeded in the burger-eating test. On re-application, they don't drag any remaining product around which is one of my biggest pet peeves when re-applying a lip colour.

Other than being formulated with priming benefits the line has been packaged in colour co-ordinated casing. Some prefer their beauty products to be housed in sleek black packaging but I find a line much easier to shop when they have the colour on show as it saves picking up 10 lipsticks before you find a shade you might like. The sleek square shape gives them a luxe feel and they snap tight so you don't run the risk of ruining your handbag lining with a rogue lipstick lid that’s fallen off. As with all silver packaging, it does run the risk of being scratched by keys or other metals so I like to make sure mine is tucked away in a separate compartment when I'm on the go.

My personal favourites are; Bare, Melon, Poppy, Passion, Sweet, Plum and Love. The brighter pink shades just aren't for me, as they don't sit well against my complexion. The only thing I would change is that some of the lighter shades do have glitter running through them which I do find a little ageing. They are available at Clinique counters now and are priced at £16, which is a great middle ground for a high-end high-quality lipstick.
