S/S Capsule Wardrobe Plans

The irony that I’m sat writing this and snow is falling from the sky is almost too much to handle. I admit, my excitement for warmer weather is a little pre-emptive this year as we had that freak heatwave (a serious reminder that global warming is very much a serious threat) a couple of weeks ago. And after getting a taste of warmer weather it got me itching to pull out my pretty midi dresses as well as add a few more pieces to my wardrobe. I created a little capsule wardrobe post for A/W and it worked really well for keeping my spending on track so here is the S/S instalment.

what’s in my existing s/s wardrobe

As I like to have a more concise wardrobe these days before I buy anything I like to go through what I already own before I make any purchases not only to make sure I don’t have anything too similar but to make sure it’s something I actually feel like I’m going to wear. My S/S wardrobe has a lot of things carried in from my A/W wardrobe as in the UK you never know when you might need a sweatshirt or a long sleeved top. And, surprisingly I have more warm weather pieces than I initially thought which was a shock to me. Although I did notice that the majority of my S/S wardrobe consists of pieces that I bought a few years ago, which is good to know I've got things that have stood the test of time.

-2 pairs of denim shorts

-9 t-shirts

-6 Bretons

-3 sweatshirts

-4 long sleeved dresses

-4 midi dresses

-5 short dresses

-1 jumpsuit

culottes

When culottes came into style a few years ago I just couldn’t get into them but now they keep on coming back around I feel like I’m finally starting to understand why they’re so popular. I was always worried that they’d make my legs look too short or be unflattering on my body shape but now I think they’d actually be an incredibly flattering option as I’m not much of a jean wearer anymore. Not only do they look lovely but for me, the biggest pull for me about this style of trouser is that they’re so versatile and can be paired with so many things. In S/S these would be a great day to day option thrown on with a t-shirt or if it’s a little chillier a leather jacket and I can see this being my go-to outfit option when a pretty summer dress isn’t really appropriate. I’m thinking a striped pair as well as a khaki green option as they would go with everything else in my wardrobe.

H&M shirt dress

Whilst smart occasions are few and far between in my life I still like to have something in my wardrobe that can work for those rare events and this dress fits in the bill perfectly. And this item could still work beautifully for more casual occasions paired with sandals and a tan satchel bag. Blush pink and tortoiseshell buttons are a combination that I always find myself drawn to, I find anything with tan accents way easier to style in my wardrobe than anything else and blush pink is the perfect neutral. And the style of dress is perfect for me right now as over the years I’ve really strayed from buying anything tight. I now much prefer anything that’s lightweight and loose as not only do I find it a 100 times more comfortable but I also find that looser items tend to be something I keep in my wardrobe longer.

STALF COCOON JUMPSUITS

I’m sure like me you’ve probably seen Stalf all over your IG feed and it’s with good reason. Stalf is a brand that not only makes beautiful pieces of clothing but each item is handmade and designed in Lincolnshire so it’s a brand pretty close to home. There a lot of pieces that I love from Stalf but one in particular I love are the short jumpsuits. On really warm days in the summer these could be worn alone but when layers are required this would be perfect for going over a Breton and obviously, they are a key part of my wardrobe. Jumpsuits and rompers like this were always something I admired from afar because I always thought they were a little fit of a faff when going to the toilet but after purchasing a striped number last year I realised it’s actually not that much hassle.

VINTAGE STYLE ME WILLIAM BOUGH MIDI DRESS

Vintage Style Me is a brand that I’ve known about since my university days as the owner Rhiannon Alexander lived in the local area. So it’s been a good six years that I’ve eyed up her smock dresses and the one that has always had my heart is that beautiful iconic William Morris print. Again, this is definitely one that I could pair with loafers and a trench coat for a smarter occasion if I required it to be but I know it’s something that I’d reach for day to day to throw on with a simple pair of sandals and a leather jacket whenever the warmer weather does roll around once again. Smock dresses were another thing that I figured were no good for me as way too often they would drown me. But after picking a serious gem in TK Maxx and it becoming one of my most worn items in my S/S wardrobe I think it’s time to add another to my wardrobe.

SUPERGA TRAINERS

I think it might finally be time to give up my beloved white Converse. After 7 years of faithful service, they’re starting to split and be a little too grubby even when they have been through the wash. And as much as I love Converse I think it might be nice to try something different and I know so many people rate the Superga trainers highly. Even though white might not seem like the most practical option and let’s be honest, it isn’t I do find it the nicest option for the warmer months and the most versatile too.

what are you excited to wear this S/S?
