A Few Things We Love Right Now

a few things we love right now

There have been a few things that I’ve purchased for Josie and Edie lately that I’ve been utterly obsessed with. Instagram Stories only last 24 hours so I thought these things deserved an entire blog post, they’re just that good.

growlees collar charms

Just after Christmas I finally bought some Growlees collar charms, I’d had my eye on them for years and they went into the Winston James Woof sale so I was thrilled to finally get my hands on them. I went for the phrases ‘Eau De Fox’ for Edie and ‘Neighbourhood Watch’ for Josie and I think they’re so sweet. It sums up a little part of their personalities perfectly as well as creating a nice little jangle with their ID tag which some might find annoying but I like having that little bit of noise so I know where they are.

When I saw Emily put these up on the DDD Instagram stories I knew I was more than likely going to have to have them because erm hello adorable hound print? The print is originally by an artist called Elena O’Neill and it’s absolutely beautiful. I picked up these lovely martingales at Crufts over a month ago and they’ve been my go-to collar over anything else they earn. What I love the most apart from the beautiful design is that they’re nice and bright so they’re easy to spot without being neon bright and they’re super easy to wash which is a must with anything Josie and Edie have.

DDD x Two Dogs Co hound poo bag

Naturally, when I saw that the hound print was going to be on a poo bag I had to pick it up. A well designed and functional poo bag holder is something that I’ve never found until now. My best friend bought me a beautiful one for Christmas but within just a few uses the metal ring started to shred all the poo bags which isn’t ideal at all. As this is cork I have absolutely no worry of that happening and the poo bags come out incredibly easy but they don’t just fly out uncontrollably.

adidos plastic cornstarch poo bags

I can’t comment on how much I like these as they’ve only just arrived but they’re something that I’ve wanted to pick up for ages. For a long time, I didn’t bother with the typical biodegradable poo bags as they’re not easy to properly dispose of and even though we won’t be able to compost these I love that they’re made from cornstarch. Once disposed of in a dog waste bin they will break down quicker than if they were just in normal landfill. I’m very aware of things going into landfill at the moment and I don’t want to add even more into them if I can help it. These poo bags are a little more expensive than the standard option but it’s something I’m happy to spend a little more on.

redhound for dogs be seen hi-viz coats (gifted)

Despite Josie and Edie’s vast wardrobe before this point they didn’t own anything hi-vis, and whilst we don’t walk them at night often or ever let off lead in the dark having something bright on dull winter days in the woods is an essential. Both dogs have dark fur and are really light on their feet so can often be tough to hear and see the pair of them so having a hi-vis coat is a total game changer. This new launch from Redhound For Dogs is perfect as it’s lined with reflective piping and fleece lined so it’s not only hi vis but wonderfully warm too.

dorwest herbs keepers mix

Something that I’ve been recommended by so many dog owners is the Dorwest Herbs Keepers Mix and I finally picked some up at Crufts and it’s quickly become a staple in the girls diet. You simply sprinkle the amount your dog needs on top of whatever your dogs food once a day. Since using this we’ve noticed a huge difference in Josie and Edie’s coats, they feel fuller, the colour looks better than ever before and they're incredibly shiny. Edie was struggling a lot with fur loss around her chest, neck and thighs but since adding this to her diet it’s come back even fluffier than she was before. After having such a big success with this I’m keen to try more Dorwest Herb supplements.

hollings jumbo venison sausages

We discovered these jumbo Venison sausages on a whim and they’ve been a staple in our treat cupboard ever since. For £5 you get 5 huge sausages and we cut them up into small slivers so we can use them as treats on a walk and the pack lasts us around a month. They’re a great high value meat only treat which is what we try and stick for Josie and Edie.

pecute dog nail grinder

I’m going to write an entire post on this nail grinder as it’s changed our lives. Edie absolutely hates having her nails clipped, we’ve tried everything at this point and each time they needed doing it became more and more stressful for the both of us. Nail grinders are something that some people wax lyrical about but I was always worried about the noise being too scary for the girls. However, after getting to the end of our tether trying to clip Edie’s nails we decided to order one as it felt like we had nothing else to lose. We went for this one after watching a few videos as it’s not as noisy as some, it sounds a lot like a beard trimmer which we felt would be a noise Edie was ok with. Within 3 days of gentle positive training we were able to file down her nails to such a good length, something that we’ve never been able to do with clippers. We’re doing a little bit with her everyday in the hopes that her quicks will retract especially in her two front claws as they are quite long but so far the progress is unbelievable.
