The Reds

I really love red lipstick, this is no secret and over the years I have used my fair share and worked out which formula sits well and which don't. There is something about slicking on a red lip that even on my worst day just makes me so much happier and give me that air of confidence we all need from time to time. Even if your in a rush in the morning and don't have time to do your hair or apply much make up lashings of mascara, a killer topknot and a red lip will fool every person you've spent the time when in fact it was a 5 minute job.

The moisturising reds: Gone are the days when a red lip meant something matte and drying oh no there is a plethora of moisturising formulations out there and one of my favourites are the Relvon Lip Butters. I have the shade 'candy apple' which either be worn lightly or you can built this up to a punchy light red which nourishes the lips and wears evenly. Another sheer red is the Maybelline Baby Lips in 'Cherry Me' which is a rubbish lip balm but it does leave such a pretty shade on the lips.

The satin reds: My favourite formulation is probably something along the lines of a satin which still has staying power but without drying or cracking on the lips like a matte can. Lately I have become somewhat obsessed the Revlon ColourBurst Matte Balms and I'm already thinking about which one I want next but the shade 'standout' is a firm favourite. Although marketed as a matte I think they leave more a satin finish to the lips but don't scrimp on the lasting power at all. The Rimmel Apocolips are a liquid lipstick but as I always blot them down so they don't transfer so easily the shade. I have the shade 'Stella' which seems to look different on everybody but on me it is a pink based red which looks so pretty in the warmer months.

The matte reds: There is something so classic and chic about a matte red and who can deny the lasting power of the right combination? Whenever I wear something bold I always use a lipliner under it and my favourite is the No7 Precision Lip Pencil but I currently have the Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner which is good but not the best. If I'm being a little lazy then I sometimes just use a liner but if I really want to go all out I will apply a lipstick over the top. Again my favourite has to be the No7 Stay Perfect lipstick in the shade 'Cherry' which a true red which doesn't leave too blue or orange in tone. I also have a soft spot for the Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipsticks and the shade 107 which is a more berry take on a red lip.
