8 Working From Home Essentials

When I first started working from home I didn't think I needed anything more than my laptop. Whilst that, of course, is the most important thing there are a few other essentials that go with the territory. Those few things make my work days a complete joy and here are my absolute favourites.

NOTEPADS

Even though most of my work is online and digital you cannot beat putting pen to paper. I'm a complete stationery junkie. Day to day I use a diary, notepad, weekly planner and to-do list. When I write things down it makes me remember them so much better compared to just seeing it on a screen. My favourite stores to pick up the following are; Rifle Paper Co, Muji, Paperchase and The Fox & Star

HAND CREAM

I suffer from horribly dry cuticles so I need something on hand (pun totally intended) that will help relieve the dryness but not make my hands a greasy mess. I can't stand seeing my keyboard covered in greasy fingerprints so there is a couple of options that I absolutely love. The Roger & Gallet Hand & Nail Balm* and Soap & Glory Hand Food. They both smell incredible and are completely desk friendly.

KEEP CUP

Having a travel cup on your desk might seem a little odd. As I don't have a huge desk it's easy to knock things over. A cup of coffee and laptop keys aren't an ideal combination. What I love about the Keep Cup is that you can twist the top so that nothing spills out. Like an adult version of a sippy cup. They have a ton of designs available if you're on the hunt for a new travel cup.

LIP BALM

An essential, wherever I go is a good lip balm. It doesn't really matter too much whether it's in stick or pot form because I'm in a clean environment so won't be dipping germs into my balms. A couple of my favourites at the moment are the Soap & Glory Smooch Operator* and Beessential Rose & Mint Balm*

HAND SANITISER

Even though I'm sat at my desk and my hands don't get incredibly dirty an anti bac is still necessary. I tend to rest my head on my hands which is a terrible habit I need to break. I love this from Lanolips* which is a hand cream & anti bac gel all in one.

PLANTS

Since I started having plants on my desk it's improved my workspace so much. I used to buy fresh flowers, but that addiction got very pricey very quickly. I love having different cacti and succulents scattered around as they not only improve my mood, but they make my environment nicer to be in. Having them in my direct eye line also reminds me to care for them as they can be easy to forget about.

SWEATPANTS

I will always do my hair, make-up and get dressed from the waist up but on the bottom you will mostly find me in my Nike sweatpants. I cannot bear to sit in tight jeans all day, I want to feel comfortable when trying to get on with my workday not restricted. When you work for yourself it's all too tempting not to get dressed at all but I think it's important for motivation. I like to make the effort like I would in any other job role.

GLASSES

Of course, if you don't need glasses then this doesn't make a difference to you. I've been wearing glasses for over three years now and I've found having a comfortable style is key. I love my pair from London Retro* they are incredibly light which is perfect when you're wearing them for long periods of time. As they're so light they don't leave marks on your nose which I find is a real issue with my Ray-Ban Wayfarers.
