Cliché Blogger Reads: Which Ones Are Worth It?

Whenever I see one of my favourite bloggers use a pretty looking book as a prop in an Instagram post I can't help but lust after it. And I am totally somebody that judges books by their covers, I know it's a dreadful habit but I just can't help myself and whenever a book has a beautifully considered cover I want in. And us bloggers are such sucker for those books but here are the ones that are actually worth the read and not just for the Instagram picture.

#GIRLBOSS - SOPHIA AMORUSO

This is probably one of the most hyped up books in the blogging world for sure. When it was released you couldn't miss it and I remember reading this in only a few hours and for the most part, I did really enjoy it. Yes, Sophia can come across as arrogant and entitled but in general, the story of how Nasty Gal came to fame is pretty amazing. The most inspiring thing I find about this book is that she had no investors in her business and managed to do it on her own. Although there are some things that are a little unbelievable in general she was a self-made woman. Like everything you just have to take it with a pinch of salt and not as gospel.

WHATEVER YOU THINK THINK THE OPPOSITE - PAUL ARDEN

Possibly one of my favourite books I discovered through the blogging world are these little inspiration boosters from Paul Arden. He was the creative director of Saatchi & Saatchi which is still one of the biggest ad and creative agencies in the world. I've read a couple of books by him and they're so short but they're so inspiring. They've got such a refreshing no bullshit approach to business which I absolutely love. Whenever I'm lacking inspiration I always love to have a quick flick through these books and they give me that boost I need.

IT - ALEXA CHUNG

I adore Alexa Chung so whether or not this was a coveted book or not I would have given it a read. It's not really an autobiography and more just musings from her life, her love for Jane Birkin and all her heartbreaks [my personal favourite parts]. It's one of those books that you can dip in and out of as well as admire all the beautiful illustrations, doodles, and photographs throughout.

PRETTY HONEST - SALI HUGHES

I think it probably goes without saying that this is my beauty bible and something that I absolutely adore. Whether you're a serious beauty lover or a beginner there is something so wonderful about the way Sali Hughes writes about products and the beauty rituals that we follow. She discusses everything from approaching beauty counters to waxing to how to deal with beauty products and illness. It's something that I've read a number of times and it's still just as captivating as the first time I read it and I wish it was something I could have read when I was just getting into beauty.

GET YOUR SH*T TOGETHER - SARAH KNIGHT

I've still not got to the end of this book but this author has been pretty hyped up in the blogging world. And maybe her first book is better than this one but I can't say I like it all that much. Whilst there are a few good takeaways I don't love the way that it's written and the author doesn't seem to allow people to actually have human feelings and emotions. Books like this whilst I do believe can be somewhat inspiring can also make people believe they only need to work and not to do anything else. Work is important, obviously but we have to live too and this seems to feed into the hustle 24/7 culture.

QUIET - SUSAN CAIN

As like a lot of people who spend the majority of their time online, I'm an introvert and at the time I discovered this book it wasn't something that was spoken about all that much. If you're a fellow introvert I highly recommend this book from Susan Cain as it contains some fantastic studies and facts about being an introvert. It helped me understand myself so much more as well as extroverts too which I think is so important when you lean more towards one personality type it's easy to misjudge another.
