Styling The Classics: The Slip-On

The classic slip on style of trainer has been a wardrobe staple of mine since about age 16. When all I would wear were skinny jeans, something adorned with stars and a hoody to throw on incase I needed a jacket. I would always reach for the simple slip-on to complete my outfit whether I was going to a gig or to my retail job they really never left my feet. Of course, that was over 10 years ago now so my tastes have dramatically changed but my love for that style hasn't wavered. But now I go for a little bit of a smarter option day to day and here are a few ways I style this classic style piece as well as why they're such a wardrobe staple...

The Style Pieces That Have Become A Part Of Me

Saying that certain style items have become part of my identity and who I am certainly makes me feel very dramatic but it's true. It's easy to dismiss style and beauty and deem them as frivolous and silly but I've realised especially this year just how important they can be to a person and that's not something that I think is silly at all. I'd been thinking about writing a post about the style pieces that I've had in my wardrobe for years [longer than 2 is my rule] and then it was a question about my tan satchel bag on Instagram that made me think about turning it into this. Once you've been wearing something for a long period of time then it does become part of who you are and here are the style pieces that have become part of my identity.

Perfecting The Effortless [but, a lot of effort really] Wave

A couple of weeks ago I did something that I never thought I was going to do. I got my hair cut into a long bob...Which I realise isn't a big deal to many people but after making such a huge effort to grow my hair as long as I possibly could to then slowly return back to the length that I started with it seems a little out there to me. In this post, I spoke about the fact that I've been struggling with hair loss so it seemed like a good time to make the change but I had no idea just how much of a difference it would make. So here is an ode to a shorter do and some current favourites for adding some serious volume and perfecting that messy beachy wave.

Finding Joy In Fitness & Getting Yourself Motivated

This summer marks 3 years since I started to really pay attention to fitness and now I can't imagine my life without it. Which is a far cry from how I used to be, I used to absolutely despise exercise and would avoid it all costs. There are many reasons for why I thought this way and I think the biggest thing was that I thought you only needed to exercise if you were unhappy with your body but now I know that's something we're made to believe by society. Whilst I know that some people will just never enjoy fitness and that's fine because it's not for everyone I do think there is pure joy to be found in some sort of physical activity and here is how I made fitness fit for me and my life as well as a few things that really motivate me.

6 Cult Beauty Products I'm Currently Trying

Testing out any type of beauty product is of course, very fun but there is just something that much better about testing out cult products and seeing if they really live up to all the hype that they've received. And I for one can be pretty sceptical and as soon as there is mass hype around one product I tend to switch off as it's so easy to jump on a bandwagon. So new and old here are some cult and hyped up beauty products that I've been giving a try lately...

Why It's Not Weird To Enjoy Time By Yourself

Something that's taken me a long time to accept let alone embrace is the fact that I really love spending time on my own. I'm a classic introvert so when I'm around others for a long period of time I feel myself becoming drained and start day dreaming about being by myself so I can recharge again. Which if you're an introvert will know is pretty normal but as well as not being able to feel energised by other people I've realised I actually really enjoy hanging out by myself. Which even writing that makes me feel a twinge of weirdness but I know that there are other people that feel like this too and they also probably feel like it's something that they're meant to be embarrassed by or made to feel ashamed of. But the older I get the more I realise just how normal it is to enjoy your own company and why it's not weird at all.

27 Things For 27 Years

It's become a blog tradition that on my birthday I write a post like this and of course I'm keeping the tradition for another year. As I've come into the latter half of my twenties I've felt so much happier and secure in myself which is such a welcome feeling after so much uncertainty in the first half of them. So taking from all the things that I've learnt in my first 27 years here are some of the things I want to do in the next.
