The Podcasts That I Can't Get Enough Of
A question that often comes up in the comment section of this blog is what my favourite podcasts are. I do mention them quite a lot and over the years they've become such a big part of my day. Working from home, alone is quite a lonely affair so I love to have a podcast on when I work but also when I'm pottering doing the cleaning or even walking my dog. My taste in podcasts varies from fun entertaining episodes to ones that are a little more serious and dig into thought-provoking topics and here are a few of my favourites that I'll always give a listen.
Let's Talk; Living with OCD, Getting Diagnosed and Help
This is certainly not a post that I thought I'd ever be writing. I have this rule when it comes to sharing personal things online that is if I'm not completely at ease with it myself then I don't share it at all. And for so long my OCD [obsessive compulsive disorder] hasn't something that I've been at peace with, so the thought of sharing it with thousands of people wasn't something I even contemplated. But 2017 saw a really big change for my OCD and I finally felt ready to be a little more open about it. And out of all the mental health struggles that are shared in the blogging world I don't think OCD is shared enough. So today I wanted to open up a discussion about it, share how I got diagnosed, live with it and things that I've found helpful. Whilst I think it's pretty obvious that I'm not a mental health professional, please don't take what I'm saying to be gospel and if you're struggling with anything please reach out to somebody.
4 Style Pieces I'm Currently Rediscovering
Because I'm on the quest to stop shopping so much this year it's really made me look like at my wardrobe and what I'm wearing and what I'm not. For the first time in years, I've packed away my summer pieces [mostly because it made me too sad that it became really cold as soon as September hit] so I've currently got my winter wardrobe on the go. There is a little bit of a crossover because I'm not a fan of having a separate wardrobe for each season as I prefer to buy wardrobe pieces that can be transitioned throughout. Anyway, here are the wardrobe pieces that I'm trying to rediscover and get good use out of, otherwise it's time for them to go.
Why Being Too Busy Turned Me Into A Crappy Person
As of right now being busy is something that we herald as very admirable. I don't remember the last time I spoke to somebody and they didn't talk about how busy they are, which isn't always a bad thing. So many people don't share that they are busy to brag but it has become something that people generally boast about. Being so exhausted and stressed out that we can't see straight is something we now see as a good thing and almost a badge of honour. Because obviously if you're not busy it means you're lazy and not working as hard as hard as other people which isn't the case at all. Over the years, I've become busier and busier and it got to a point where I realised it was turning me into a really crappy person. And being that busy isn't all that amazing and definitely not something I saw as a good thing.
Nars Sheer Glow, I Was Wrong...
Every now and again I'll feel something about a beauty product and get the overwhelming urge to sit and write an entire post dedicated to it. This isn't very common and I can probably count on one hand how many times this has happened in the nearly 7 years that I've been writing about beauty. But every so often it does and this one is a rebuttal, in the summer I spoke about how I wasn't getting on with the cult classic Nars Sheer Glow*. A foundation loved by so many of my online friends and people in my real life too, I just couldn't see it. It looked weird and dry on my complexion and the coverage wasn't something I was thrilled about. But a few months later I pulled it out of my dressing table to see whether I was going to keep it or give it away, it had one last chance. Well, it was a different tale and now it's not left my makeup bag ever since so I'm sorry Nars Sheer Glow, I was wrong.
A Whole Lot Of Lifestyle Favourites
Think of this blog post as a text conversation between friends, you know the ones I mean. Where you find something that makes you so happy that you must text your friends immediately to let them know about it. The odd little things that I'm enjoying in life don't typically get mentioned all that much on this corner of the internet. But there have been a few things I've been loving a little too much not to share so here are a whole lot of lifestyle favourites.
7 Makeup Brushes That I'm Really Into Right now
Considering how much I use and rely on makeup brushes in my routine I should really give them a little more airtime on this blog. One of my beauty resolutions for the year was to use more of my brush collection so I've had a switch up and dragged myself away from my usual favourites. And not so surprisingly I've rediscovered some really incredible brushes that are such a joy to use.
7 Things I Do In The AM To Make Sure I Have A Super Productive Day
My morning routine is something I treasure, it's not always something that goes perfectly but in general it's something that I've pretty much got down to a T. And I've not always been a morning person, back at university I would sleep my mornings away in favour for staying up late at night but oh how times have changed. I'll happily start my day at 5am if needs be and I'm always that person who is so infuriatingly chipper it probably makes other people want to scream. But here are 7 things that really help my morning get off to the best start possible.
Why I'm [Trying] Not To Shop In 2018
Over the past year, I've spoken quite a lot about how my relationship with material items has changed but this is a post that I never thought that I'd be writing. Because I do love material items, I can't and won't deny that fact but I think it's so easy to get caught up in the cycle of constantly buying. And as a blogger that's even more prevalent and something, I want to try and nip in the bud. This isn't to say that I think shopping is awful or an evil practice but this year I really want to challenge myself not to shop as much and here are the reasons why.
